Trauma Therapy
Trauma focused therapy specifically targets traumatic experiences that impact the mental, behavioral, physical, and emotional state of an individual.

To become a trauma therapist, I needed to go through additional certifications. I am specialized in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This type of therapy has 8 phases and has a bilateral stimulation through a light-bar, tappers, or both. Through bilateral stimulation, the body is mimicking an important part of our sleep cycle, REM sleep. During REM sleep, we use memory and emotional processing, and by activating this we are able to dive deeper into the trauma. Most patients are even able to remember more of their past that they have neglected or desensitized from.

There are specifically 7 types of trauma.

The 8 stages of EMDR:
-
History Taking and Treatment Planning: The therapist recognizes if the client is ready. This is when the target memory, distressing event, is chosen
-
Preparation: Making sure the client can handle the emotional distress. This is also when trust between the therapist and the client is made.
-
Creating a Negative Cognition: A negative thought of oneself.
-
A Visual Image: A visual image related to the target memory or other memory
-

-
Believing a Positive Belief: A positive thought that combats the negative cognition.
